Fashion Doll Patterns:

Sleeveless Top and Dress

Want to knit using fashion doll patterns?

This is a very easy pattern to knit for Barbie or any other fashion dolls (11 to 11 1/2 inches). My cousin from Denver designed this pattern. We were reminiscing about our fashion dolls from the early 1960's, and when we picked up our needles and yarn, these versatile designs emerged.

Barbie Shell and Dress

Materials: 4-ply worsted weight yarn. Leftover yarn works well since so little is required.

Needles: Size 5 U.S.

Gauge: 9 stitches = 2 inches; 15 rows = 2 inches

Directions:

Cast on 14 stitches.

Rows 1-6: K each row.

Rows 7-20: Work in stockinette stitch (purl one row, K one row) beginning with a purl row, 7 times for a total of 14 rows.

NOTE - For dress, continue in stockinette stitch for a total of 30 rows.

Rows 21-23: K each row.

Row 24: K 3 stitches, bind off next 8 stitches, K remaining 2 stitches (3 stitches left on each side for shoulders).

Row 25: K 3 stitches, cast on 8 stitches, K 3 stitches (14 stitches total).

Rows 26-30: K each row.

Rows 30-43: Purl one row, K one row 7 times for a total of 14 rows.

NOTE - For dress, continue in stockinette stitch for a total of 30 rows.

Rows 44-48: K each row. Bind off all stitches.

Below is a picture of the top before stitching the side seams.

Your seam will lay flat and the design will be intact if you "weave" your stitches in. See pictures below:
