One Piece Bathing Suit
for an American Girl Doll

Here is one of several doll clothes patterns to crochet that is ideal for a beginner. YOU can make this adorable one piece bathing suit for your American Girl Doll. The only two stitches used are the double and single crochet.

I used a multi colored Skacel 100% Polyamid(Tactel) yarn.

You will need approximately 75 grams to make both items.

The bathing suit requires about 50 grams.

Check your gauge before beginning:

4 sc per inch, 4 rows per inch with a Size G (4 mm) hook.

Bathing Suit Pattern:

The bathing suit is crocheted in a tube, so you do not have to sew a side seam! The crotch piece is added to the main tube, and lastly, the straps.

Chain 44. Join chain to form a circle.

All Rows: Ch 1, SC in every stitch.

Continue this SC until piece measures 4 1/2 inches.

Chain into next 2 stitches, then 2 SC, 4 DC, 4 SC, 4 DC, ch 1, cut yarn, and bury end. (You have just formed the curved top on the front).

To add the crotch, you will be adding 8 stitches in the front to the center of the bottom of the tube. Chain 1, and insert this into the 4th stitch to the right of the middle stitch on the bottom front of your tube.

SC into the next 8 stitches, ch 1, turn.

Repeat this row for 3 rows, then SC into 7 stitches for next row (skip first stitch for decrease), and 6 stitches for the following 2 rows.

Increase 1 stitch per side for the next row, and every row, continuing to SC in each stitch (2 SC on ends). When you have 14 stitches, cut a 12-14 inch yarn length and pull it through your last stitch.

Thread yarn end through your needle, and sew the back of the crotch to the back bottom of the bathing suit, centering the top crotch piece.

Straps (Make 2):

Ch 19. SC in second stitch from hook. (18 SC's) Cut yarn 12-14 inches, and pull through last loop.

Attach the straps on both sides of the front, above the SC stitches. Straps should be 3 1/2 inches apart and centered. Attach to corresponding stitches on the back of the bathing suit.
