Bitty Baby Knit Dress

This Bitty Baby knit dress will fit most 12 inch baby dolls.

Get your needles, yarn, and let"s get started!

Pattern (Revised 5-3-2011).

Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch with worsted weight yarn and Size 5 needles, or gauge to yield 5 sts per inch.

Dress Front

Cast on 46 stitches.

Rows 1-4: K

Work in stockinette stitch (K 1 row, P 1 row), until piece measures 4 1/2 inches.

Row 1 of Decrease: (K3, K2 tog)*, repeating across row, K last stitch.

(37 sts)

Row 2: Purl

Row 3 of Decrease: (K3, K2 tog)*, repeating across row, k last 2 sts.

(30 sts)

K across next 4 rows.

Bind off 4 sts, K across remaining stitches.

Bind off 4 sts, P across remaining stitches.

K2tog, K18, K2tog. (20 sts)

Work stockinette for next 8 rows, ending with a purl row.

Work 5 stitches in stockinette (K5, turn, P5, turn, K5, turn, P5, turn, K5).

Bind off these 5 stitches.

Attach yarn at opposite edge. Work stockinette on 5 end stitches for 5 rows. Bind off 5 stitches.

Place the remaining 10 stitches on a holder.

Dress Back

Work back of dress same as Dress Front through Row 3 of Decrease (30 sts remaining).

Left Back:

K 15. Place remaining 15 sts on a holder.

K three more rows, using the 15 stitches that you just knit.

Bind off 4 stitches for armhole and P to end of row.

K to last 2 sts, K2tog. (10 sts)

Purl

Work stockinette (K 1 row, P 1 row) for a total of 8 more rows, ending with a purl row.

Continuing in stockinette stitch, decrease one stitch per row at neck edge until 5 sts remain.

Purl.

Bind off 5 sts.

Right Back: Place 15 stitches from holder on a needle. Join yarn at center back.

K four rows.

Purl next row.

Bind off 4 stitches for armhole and K to end of row.

Purl to within last 2 stitches, and P2tog.

Work stockinette (K 1 row, P 1 row) for a total of 8 more rows, ending with a purl row.

Continuing in stockinette stitch, decrease one stitch per row at neck edge until 5 sts remain.

Purl.

Bind off 5 stitches for right shoulder on dress back.

Weave front to back at shoulder seams.

Sleeves - Make 2

Cast on 22 stitches.

Rows 1-3: K

Rows 4-7: Stockinette stitch (K 1 row, P 1 row).

Row 8: Bind off 3 sts, K to end.

Row 9: Bind off 3 sts, P to end.

Row 10: K2tog, K18, K2tog. (14 sts)

Row 11: Purl.

Repeat Rows 10 and 11 until 8 stitches remain.

Last Row: Purl

Bind off 8 stitches.

Finishing:

Sew dress side seams from bottom to armhole end. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves to dress at armholes.

Collar and Back Facings

Use a circular needle for the facings and collar.

Row 1: Beginning at left back, pick up and K 12 sts along left side, 5 sts along back, 5 sts along left front, 10 stitches from

holder, 5 sts along right front, 5 sts along right back, and 12 stitches along back right center. (54 stitches)

Row 2: K12, inc 1, K28, inc 1, K12. (56 sts)

Row 3: K

Row 4: K

Bind off 56 stitches.

Sew buttons on left back for embellishment, if desired.

Sew 1/2 inch wide velcro to back facings.
